Dr. Qin Zhu is an associate professor in the Department of Engineering Education at Virginia Tech. He has majored in Engineering Education, Philosophy of Science and Technology, and Materials Engineering. Dr. Zhu currently teaches introductory engineering classes at Virginia Tech while continuing his research into engineering cultures and the ethics of upcoming technologies. In this interview, Dr. Zhu shares how he came into his current role at Virginia Tech and the factors that guided his love for engineering ethics and teaching engineering. He also discusses the challenges and hurdles he’s faced as an Asian American, and specifically Chinese American, immigrant coming into academia in the US.
