Forty-two years after VAMC opened in 1872, and 40 years after the first international student enrolled, Mozaffar-ed-din Khan was the first international student from Asia to enroll at the university, coming from Teheran, Persia (sic). This was nearly 10 years before the first women and nearly 40 years before the first Black student, Irving Linwood Peddrew, III, enrolled at the university.
