In 1950, Yvonne Rohran Tung was the first Asian woman international student to enroll at the university, coming from Hong Kong. She entered the United States on March 3, 1949 at San Francisco as a student. She earned an M.S. from Cornell University in 1952. Her thesis was titled, A Study of Stabilizing Agents for Ascorbic Acid in Plant Material. She later lived in St. Paul, Minnesota.
